WHAT CAUSES FADING?
To understand the causes of fading, one needs to know a little about the makeup of sunlight. Sunlight is basically made up of three elements:
- Visible Light : The part which enables us to see, the visible portion of the spectrum.
- Infrared Light: The part which we feel as heat.
- UV Light : The part we can not feel or see but is the main factor in causing fabrics to fade. The kind that they have warned you about for years that can effect your vision over time. Most sunglasses block it.
- Artificial Light :indoor artificial lighting.
UV light and infrared heat are the main factors that contribute to fading, which is why effective film installations must harness all three sunlight elements.
UV absorbers are used to stop ultraviolet light at the film and keep it from intering your structure. The type, amount and location of the absorbers in the product determine the film's effectiveness in reducing fading. Absorbers located in the adhesive instead of the film itself can be far less stable and enduring than those which are built into the film. They can also cause pre-mature ading and bubbling of the film causing a less than desireable look.
